Patellectomy
Abstract
Patella has a very important role in extension of the knee by supplementing the continuity of quadriceps mechanism and Iengthening quadriceps moment arm. Patellectomy diminishes the extension power of knee, starts degenerative changes in the joint and causes poor cosmetic appearance of the knee. Patellectomy must not be the first selected indication for the treatment of different knee pathological conditions.
