The results of distal oblique metatarsal osteotomy (Lindgren-Turan) operation in the surgical treatment of hallux valgus

Abstract

At the SSK Hospital in the Department of Orthopeadics and Traumatology, Lindgren and Turan operation have been performed on the 44 feet of 43 patients with hallux valgus between the years of 1989 and 1991. 33 (78%) of the patients were female and 10 (22%) of them were male with ages ranged between 13-76 (average age was 41.1) Their mean follow-up period was 11.5 months .(2-22 months). The evaluation of the results has been made according to Glückert and et. al.’s objectıve and subjective criteria and in addition to them Macnab's criteria. Consequently, we obtained 36 (81.1%) excellent, 6 (13.6%) good and 2 (4.6%) poor results. Thus, it is clear that Lindgren- Turan operation is a preferable method for the patients with hallux valgus who do not have an extreme arthrotic change Because this operalion; -is technically easier -can be performed in polyclinics by regional anesthesia -effectively prevents deformation without soft tissue operation, -enables the patient to carry out his/her daily functions in the post - operational period without external support devices
