Cellular DNA content and clinicopathologic correlations in chondroid tumors

Abstract

The process of differentiating between cartilage tumors is complex. Flow cytometric DNA analysis was performed on 23 chondroid tumors out of which 5 were enchondroma, 5 were Grade I, 4 were Grade II, 5 were Grade III and 4 were mesenchymal chandrosarcoma. Cellular DNA content, presynthetic growth phase, synthetic phase, postsynthetic phase and mitotic growth phases were determined for each case. Flow cytometry appears to provide a useful method to describe the DNA ploidy in cartilage tumors. In addition to nuclear DNA changes, proliferation phase values may also help in differential diagnosis of nuclear DNA changes, proliferation phase values may also help in differential diagnosis of these tumors.
