The treatment of supracondylar fractures in children by open reduction

Abstract

Supracondylar fracture is one of the most frequent type of fracture seen in children. Many problems may arise during and after treatment. When conservative methods are not sufficient surgical treatment is applied. Between the years 1983-1991, 80 supracondylar fractures in children were treated by open reduction and minimal osteosynthesis in Şişli Etfal Hospital of Health Ministry. We could get the follow-up of 35 of the cases and evaluated the results in view of the literature. In 80.5% of the cases, satisfying results were achieved according to Flynn criteria.
