Limb-salvage surgery for bone sarcomas

Abstract

Between years 1988-1992 we followed 36 patients with bone sarcomas of extremities at Orthopaedics and Traumatology Department of SSK Okmeydanı Hospital and 11 out of 36 patients were treated by Iimp sparing surgery. AlI of these 11 patients were stage IIB according to Enneking classification and 6 of them were osteosarcoma, 4 were chondrosarcoma and one was Ewing s sarcoma. Patients wiht chondrosarcoma and Ewing' s sarcoma were treated both by surgically and different adjuvant therapies. Following the resection, different reconstruction methcds were applied due to the conditions. The mean follow up time was 31 months. During this period all our patints were alive but pulmoner metastases were detected in a patient with osteosarcoma and a patient with Ewing's sarcoma.

Öz

SSK Okmeydanı Hastanesi Ortopedi ve Travmatoloji Kliniği'nde, 1988-1992 yılları arasında tedavi edilen 36 ekstremite iskelet sistemi sarkomu olgusundan 11 'ine Iokal rezeksiyon uygulanmıştır. Hepsi, Enneking sınıflamasına göre grade 11 B olan bu hastalardan 6'sı osteosarkom, 4'ü kondrosarkom biri Ewing sarkomudur. Kondrosarkom vakalarına yalnızca cerrahi tedavi uygulanırken Ewing ve osteosarkom vakalarına farklı adjuvan tedavilerle birlikte cerrahi tedavi uygulanmıştır. Rezeksiyonu takiben vakanın özelliğine göre çeşitli rekonstrüksiyon yöntemleri kullanılmıştır. Ortalama takip süresi 31 aydır. Bu süre içinde bütün hastalanmız sağ kalırken bir osteosarkom ve bir Ewing sarkomu olgusunda akciğer metastazı tespit edilmiştir.
