Lower Extremity Orthosis Application in Cerebral Palsy Patients
Abstract
The deformities in lower extremity applied surgeries, orthoses used in lower extremities and ambulation Ievels of 220 patients with cerebralpalsy that were hospitalized for rehabilitation in Ankara Rehabilitation Center are discussed. The deformities frequently observed were flexion, adduction and internal rotation in hip joints; flexion in knee; and pes equinus in foot. 23 of our patients had operations on Iower ekxtremity. Lower extremity orthoses were ap,dlied in 71 patients. 2 received short leg. 7 received long leg orthoses. 45 had walking splints and in 17 ambulation was obtained by knee splints. Ambulation was performed by suitable rehabilitation shortly after the operation. The patients who referred lately suffered from contractures because of having difficulty in keeping the necessary positions. Carefulapplication of orthosis maintains stability in joints, improves the posiure and also suppor1s the ambulation.
