Muscle strength after ACL reconstruction with bone tendon-bone patellar autograft tested by Cybex II dynamometer
Abstract
The Cybex II dynamometer is a device which offers isokinetic testing of different body joints and muscle groups, allowing precise, reproducible control of joint range of motion in keeping with specific rehabilitation goals. This system collects torque, work and power data, thus it can be used to identify and quantify functional musculoskeletal deficits. 25 patients with chronic anterolateral knee instability have been treated with ACL reconstruction using bone-tendon-bone patellar autograft and early aggressive rehabilitation program. As well known, the most common complications of the above mentioned procedure are chondromalacia patellae, loss in ROM, and failure to gain quadriceps strength. All patients have been tested on the involved and uninvolved sides. The results for the velocity 180deg/sec are: peak torque in flex. inv./uninv.-%114, total work in flex. inv./uninv.-%117, peak torque in extan.inv./ uninv.-%90, total work in extan. inv./uninv.-%80. These results confirm that this operative method and our rehabilitation program offer good results regarding muscle strength
