Magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopy in determining the meniscal lesions

Abstract

The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the most advanced modality for evaluating of the musculo-skelatal system. As the differentiation of joint cartilage, menisci and ligaments have excellent tissue resolution, for diagnosing the intraarticular pathologies of the knee, the magnetic resonance imaging has been frequently used in diagnose and treatment in our country. In the cases, admitted to our clinic and, suspected of meniscus pathology in physical examination, MRI and arthroscopy were performed and the sensitive value of MRI was investigated. In the date between January 1993 and December 1993, 25 cases, 7 female, 18 male, were evaluated as to both methods by the same physician team. Even though the sensitivity value was high in the meniscus Iesions by the magnetic resonance imaging, it was determined that there were faults especially in the explanations of the stage lll lesions.
