Fractures of the neck of femur in children and associated complication

Abstract

We reviewed 13 children s fractures of the femoral neck treated in the department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology of the D.U. Medical School and we have evaluated 11 of them who are under our control. Delbet s classification, as reported by Collonna was used to classify the type of fracture; one was type l transepiphyseal, three type 2 transcervical, five type 3 basocervical and two type 4 pertrochanteric. The mean age at time of fracture was 11.8 (range 7 years to 15 years). According to Ratliff s classification, final results of six cases were evaluated good, two fair and three poor. We observed three non union, two avascular necrosis, two premature physeal closvre and two coxa vara releated to previous complication.
