Limited joint mobility in diabetes mellitus and its relationship with nephropathy neuropathy and retinopathy

Abstract

The prevalence of limited joint mobility (LJM) was investigated in 84 diabetic patients and 27 non-diabetic healthy controls and its association with diabetic nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy and the age of individuals also evaluated. LJM in diabetic patients (61.9%) was more prevalent than in the non-diabetic controls (29.6%) (p<0.05). Although, the prevalence of LJM increased proportionally with the duration of diabetes, retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy, this increase was only found significant with the presence of retinopathy (p<0.05). We also observed that neuropathy, retinopathy and nephropathy were seen commonly with the presence of LJM in diabetic patients.
