The value of bone scintigraphy in the treatment and postoperative evaluation of adolescent femoral neck fractures

Abstract

We have evaluated the probable benefits of quantitative scintigraphy perfotmed at preoperative period, postoperative 3rd month and postoperative last control at least 9 months in choosing the threatment method and predicting the prognosis in intracapsular hip fracture of 12 adult patients (between 22-50 years old) treated in Taksim State Hospital, Orthopacdics and Traumatology Department between 1988 and 1989. Although the small number of cases makes impossible to extract a statistical meaning, the success rate of 97% suggest that this method may have some value in choosing the type of treatment and prediction of major postoperative complications such as avascular necrosis and nonunion.
