lnflammatory atlantoaxial subluxation; Grisel syndrome

Abstract

Atlantoaxillary rotatory subluxation is an uncommon, poorly understood problem that occurs primarily in children. lt is most frequently seen following trauma, but has been seen as a complication of head and neck surgery and infections. Non-traumatic subluxation of the atlantoaxial joint following peripharyngeal inflammation is known as Grisel's syndrome and has been attributed to laxity of the transverse ligament caused by hiperemia. Early diagnosis and conservative modes of therapy are sufficient in most of the time. ln regard of one case, our aim in this study is to make you remember this syndrome again and point out the importance of computerized tomography in the early diagnosis.
