Bone grafts and bone banking

Abstract

Bone grafts are used by orthopaedic surgeons for a variety of purposes such as to fill bone cysts; reconstruction of bone lost due to trauma or tumors, to aid healing of ununited fractures and unions, joint arthrodeses. Bone grafts may be either autologous or allogenic. ln the recent years the clinical demand for banked bones has risen rapidly because of the dramatic increase in the volume of orthopaedic reconstructive procedures requiring replacement of bone. This demand has been the cause of program of bone banking. This article is an overview of bone banking methodology currently in general use and principles of bone grafts.

Kemik greftleri ve kemik bankaları

Öz

Kemik greftleri ortopedistler tarafından kemik kistlerinin doldurulması, travma ve tümör rezeksiyonları sonrasında oluşan kemik kayıplarının rekonstrüksiyonu, kaynama problemli kırıklarda osteogenezinin desteklenmesi gibi çok değişik amaçlarla kullanılagelmiştir. Son yıllarda rekonstrüktif amaçlı kemik grefti kullanımlarındaki belirgin artışla çok daha çeşitli şekil ve büyük boyutta kemik greftlerine ihtiyaç duyulmuştur. İşte bu ihtiyaç kemik bankalarının yaygınlaşması ile sonuçlandı. Bu nedenle yazımızda kemik greftlerinin çeşitlerini, özelliklerini ve kemik bankalama tekniklerini derledik.
