Spinal neurofibromas

Abstract

A series of 31 spinal cord neurofibromas was analyzed for clinical findings, surgical technic, and outcome. The tumors presented primarily with pain and sensory symptoms. Plain films were abnormal in 1/4 of cases. The most frequent tumor locations were thoracic region (58%) and cervical region (42%). According to operative findings, tumors were found to be completely intradural and extradural in 3 (10%). Pain had complete relief in (80%) of the patients postoperatively. In comparison to operative motor function in (60%) of the patients had complete recovery in the postoperative period.
