Preventive effect of low molecular weight heparin on thrombosis formation in microvascular anastomosis

Abstract

Antithrombotic effect of the low molecular weight heparin (L.M.W.H) in microvascular anastomosis was investigated with femoral arteries of the rats. Femoral arteries of 28 rats were cut and anastomosed end to end with microsurgical technique. Rats were divided into two groups and 0.0004 ml/ 100 gr/daily (0.1 axa/U/gr/daily) L.M.W.H. was given to the first group for 7 days and in the second group nothing was given. At the 15 th day all the anastomosis were examined clinically and pathologically, In the first group which had given L.M.W.H. and in the second group, there was no thrombosis formation and arterial flow was normal. As a result, we concluded that it is not necessary to give L.M.W.H. after microvascular anastomosis, when there is no endothelial damage and which have repaired with a good microsurgical technique.
