Dynamic ultrasonography in the diagnosis of congenital dislocation of the hip (Is dynamic ultrasonography necessary?)

Abstract

A work has carried out our 100 hip series comprised 50 babies to evaluate benefits of dynamic methods besides the Graf method one of the ultrasonographic methods that is continuously widespread on the diagnosis of congenital dislocation of the hip. According to the Graf evaluation of 100 hips has been found the 63 hips Type Ia, 18 hips Type Ib, 10 hips Type IIa, 3 hips Type IIb, 5 hips Type IIc, 1 hip Type IId, and no Type III and IV hip has been found. On the dynamic ultrasonographic examination by using piston maneuver on axial (transverse) and horizontal planes, displacement has been seen on one hip with Type IIa, 3 hips with Type IIb, and 4 hips with Type IIc. No displacement has been seen on one hip with Type IIc. On this work, on the ultrasonographic diagnosis of congenital dislocation of the hip the morphological criterions are sufficient by itself it is stressed that the hip stability should be investigated by the dynamic ultrasonographic examination.
