Reconstruction of the thumb with fasciocutaneous radial forearm flap

Abstract

8 cases with traumatic amputation of the thumb were admitted to our hospital between the years of 1993-1994. They were treated by using fasciocutaneous radial forearm flap. There were 3 male and 5 female patients with the mean age of 33 years. Average follow-up was 20 months. Bilateral hand function were evaluated according to the parameters of Moberg pick-up, recognition of objects and subjective questionnaire in these patients. At the conclusion, it was found that osteoplastic reconstruction of the thumb with the fasciocutaneous radial forearm flap resulted with satisfactory function.
