Fracture healing and the importance of periost

Abstract

In this study, we investigated the importance of the periost in fracture healing on the fractured site of rat femurs by sealing half of the other half untouched. The right femurs of the ten rats were osteotomised under ether anasthesia. The outer side of the periost in the fracture site was sealed the inner side was left untouched. We fixed the fracture with an intramedullary K-wire. Four weeks later, the rats were killed and radiological and histological examinations were performed on their right femurs. We observed that the healing was perfect on the side where the periost was left untouched. The results show that during the treatment of osteotomy and fracture, the periost has to be protected from surgical injury.

Kırık iyileşmesi ve periostun önemi (Deneysel çalışma)

Abstract

Su deneysel çalışmada, periostun kırık iyileşmesmdeki önemi; sıçan femurlarında oluşturulan kırık bölgesinde. periostun yansı sıyrılıp yarısı sağlam bırakılarak araştırıldı. On adet sıçan'ın sağ femurlarına eter anestezisi altında açık osteotomi uygulandı. Kırık bölgesinde dış kısımdaki periost sıyrıldı, iç taraf periostuna dokunulmadı. K-teli ile intramedüller tespit yapıldı. Dört hafta sonra sakrifiye edilen sıçanların sağ femurları rad-yolojik ve histolojik olarak incelendi. Kaynamanın periostun sağlam olduğu tarafta daha iyi olduğu saptandı. Sonuçlar, osteotomiler ve kırık tedavileri sırasında periostun korunması yönünde daha fazla titiz davranılması gerektiğini göstermektedir.
