Arthroscopic stabilization of superior labrum anterior-posterior lesions

Abstract

With the advent of shoulder arthroscopy and the advance of anatomical studies about shoulder, more specific shoulder pathologies has been described. After superior labral lesions had been diagnosed arthroscopically, these lesions were designated as Superior Labrum Anterior to Posterior (SLAP) lesions. We reviewed the 75 shoulder arthroscopies who were done between the years 1992 and 1996 and of those 14 were found to be diagnosed as SLAP lesion. 3 of 4 SLAP type II lesions were fixed arthroscopically with biodegradable tacs (Suretac). The mean follow-up period was 18 months. Debridement for stable SLAPlesions and arthroscopic fixation for unstable lesions ensured satisfactory results. In this study, reviewing the literature, we reported the early results of our cases with SLAP lesion who underwent arthroscopic treatment.
