Primary hemiarthroplasty with straight stem endoprosthesis in elderly patients with femoral neck fractures

Abstract

Between 1990-1995, in Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of GATA Haydarpasa Training Hospital, primary hemiarthroplasty with Muller Straight Stem Endoprosthesis was performed in highly osteoporotic and elderly 80 patients with intracapsular femoral neck fractures. 66 patients, which ware followed-up minimum 6 months (ranging between 6 months and 38 months). According to Modified Harris Hip Scoring system we obtained excellent, good and fair results in 59 (89.4 %) patients and poor result in 7 (10.6 %) patients. Our results are congruous with the literature. In our opinion, primary hemiarthroplasty with Muller Straight Stem endoprosthesis is a good alternative in the treatment of highly osteoporotic and elderly patients with femoral neck fractures.
