Irreducible epiphyseal plate fracture of the distal ulna: A case report
Abstract
Injuries to the distal ulnar epiphysis are unusual. The need for open reduction of a distal ulnar physeal injury is a rare phenomenon reported in a few cases in the literature. A 11 year-old girl fell, sustaining a torus fracture of the distal radius and a displaced type I physeal fracture of the distal ulna. Attempts to perform a closed reduction failed. At operation an interposed periosteum was found. Anatomic reduction was accomplished and stabilization was achieved by a Kirschner wire and a long arm cast. No complication occurred at 3 months follow-up.
