Migration of Kirschner wires following iliac osteotomy in treatment of congenital dislocation of the hip. A report of three cases and review of the literature

Abstract

Migration of orthopaedic implants is a well documental phenomenon. Prompt recognition and immediate retrieval may prevent significant and potentially fatal sequelae. A review of literature disclosed few reports of this complication. We describe three cases in order to emphasize the potential danger of the migration of such metallic devices used near abdominal cavity.
