The effect of muscle tonus on functional independence measurement in stroke rehabilitation

Abstract

In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of muscle tonus on functional improvement in stroke rehabilitation. This study was performed on 44 hemiplegic patients rehabilitated in our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic. Muscle tonus improvements in hands, upper and lower extremities were evaluated according to Ashworth Pederson Scala (APS) before and after therapy. And also the effect of these tonus improvements on Functional Independence Measurement (FIM) was evaluated. No significant correlation was found between FIM and values determined according to APS, after therapy in rehabilitated patients.
