A case of an intraneural ganglion cyst in the peroneal nerve resulting in drop foot

Abstract

Intraneural ganglion cysts are rarely observed. Involvement of the peroneal nerve may cause neurological deficits, resulting in foot drop. Magnetic resonance imaging and electromyography are quite valuable in the diagnosis. A fourteen-year-old male patient presented with a painful swelling in the lateral part of his right knee, causing drop foot. An intraneural ganglion cyst was detected, affecting the peroneal nerve. Surgical removal of the lesion was performed. Nerve functions improved in the postoperative fourth month. No complications occurred during a follow-up for 30 months.
