Breakage of intramedullary nails after fracture union

Abstract

In a case, we saw that the intramedullary nail was broken just above the medullary canal after fractue union. Breakage at proximal portion of the nails technically misapplied or applied for pseudoarthrosis. Similar breakages are strongly dependent on the abnormal tensions, which is the result of physiological movements of the underdeveloped pathologically broken femur. After the application of intramedullary nail and the fracture union, the proximal portion of the nail has to be controlled by periodically radiographs.
