Treatment of tibial chronic osteomyelitis and open tibia by locak muscle flaps

Abstract

Thirteen previously operated cases with chronic osteomyelities and five cases with open and infected tibial and fibular fractures applied to the Department of Orthopaedics and traumatology of the Faculty of Medicine, Cumhuriyet University during 1985-1987 and were treated by local muscle flaps. As a result of treatment, all the choronic osteomyelitic cases recovered from infections. In the 5 cases with open tibial and fibular fractures, bone grafts and splitthickness Cutaneal grafits, as well as electrical stimulation were used in addition to local muscle flaps as a result of which infection was done away with and bone union achieved.
