Internal fixation in femoral neck fractures
Abstract
When the femoral neck is fractured, the hip activity is disordered. Nowadays, increasing traffic and labor accidents cause increasing of the femoral neck fractures among the young peoples. The femoral neck fractures need to be treated urgently and appropriately within internal fixation because of the complications which can cause disabilitiy. In this study, 53 patients with femoral neck fractures treated by using of Pugh hip nails were reviewed retrospectively in many aspects at University of Cukurova Faculty of Medicin Department of Orthopeadics and Traumatulug between August 1976-January 1986. 46 of them that had been followed up average 35.7 months were included. The results were excellent and good in 76.1%, fair and poor in 23.9% of the patients. In 2(4.3%) patients avascular necrosis nonunion and in 14(31.5%) patients avascular necrosis alone had been observed as complications. It can be concluded that nonunion can be prevented by early reduction and internal fixation by using sliding type hip nails in femoral neck fractures, however avasculer necrosis is still remain to be a problem.
