Results of the surgical treatment of the distal humeral condylar fractures of children.
Abstract
Fifty three patients with displaced humeral condylar region fractures (26 male and 7 female) whose were hospitalised and treated with surgery between 1983-1986 in Pediatric Orthopaedics and Traumatology Unit of SSK Tepecik Hospital were evaluated. Thirty three of them had been seen in outpatient department; radiological and clinical follows up have been checked.
Mean age was 7.8 year old. Maximal and minimal follows up periods were 44 months and 6 months respectively, mean follows up period was 26.7 monts. 7 cases have medial epicondyl fracture, 25 cases with lateral condyl fracture and 1 case has medial condyl fracture.
The surgical results were better in cases with lateral condylar fractures than medial condyle fractured patients. Proper recognition of pathology and early anatomic deduction after injury, prevents complications on a large scale.
