The development of atlanto-axial subluxation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Abstract
100 patients (76 women, 24 Men) with Rheumatoid Arthritis (R.A.) were investigated with relation to the atlanto-axial subluxation (A.A.S.). On the basis of the radiological examination. A.A.S. was shown to be present in 14 out of the 100 patients in the series. A.A.S. was said to be present when the anterior atlas to adondoid distance was 3 mm or more. The common feature of these patients was the duration of the underlying disease that was 5 years or more. The other features of these patients were not different from those of the 86 patients without subluxation.
