TREATMENT OF DELAYED UNION AND NON-UNION WITH DIRECT CURRENT STIMULATOR

Abstract

A research program on direct electrical current for stimulation of bone healing was performed in the Department of Orthopaedics and Troumatology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Ankara. The stimulatör was designed to test by a firm named Teknoloji Transferi Bürosu of Prof Dr. A. Saplakoğlu. This method of treatment has been applied on a delayen and non-union, infected non-union cases of long bones and solid union achieved in 19 (90,4%) cases. The procedure is safe and simple, with a short hospital stage and low rate of complications, The procedure has advantoges over Phemister or Charnley bone greft operations, in that, it produces less pain, generally avoids the need for A cancellous bone greft and allows an anterior approach to the bone with a small stin incision. In summary, Electro Stimulatör used and described as an effective method of treatment for delayen union, non-union and infected non-union fractures of long bones.
