INDICATION FOR PROXIMAL FEMORAL OSTEOTOMIES IN THE SURGICAL TREATMENT OF HIP OSTEOARTHRITIS
Abstract
During 9 years between 1973 and 1963 in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Istanbul Medical School in the Istanbul University, proximal femoral osteotomy was applied on 86 hips of 72 cases with osteoarthritis. Our cases had an avarage of 56 years of age. In 46 of theee cases, only translation, in 32 translation and varisation, and in 9 translation valgisation operations were performed. Union period was 4 months in avarage results were examined in view of pain, restriction of motion, ambulation and nadiologic conciusions. It was observed that in 76 hips (86% w), pain was decreased or lost completely, ambulation was better compared to its previone form in 59 hips (69%). There was hochange in hip motions in 52 hips (60%), there way slight reduction in motions in 16 hips (19% w), and that there was a slight reduction in motions in 16 hips (19%), and there was a slight increase in motions in 18 hips (21%). It has been conciuded that if indicated adequately proximal femoral osteotomies have a selective place in the treatment of osteoarthrosis.
