Treatment of congenital dislocation of the hip with the Pavlik harness

Abstract

Treatment of congenital dislocation of the hip with the Pavlik harness in th children between 0-6 months of age is presented. 69 hips in 41 patients were followed for an average of 16.8 months. The Pavlik harness reduces the hips without any for e and greatiy reduces the incidence of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. The harness also allows active hip motion while retaining the hips in their reduced position and enhances normal development. The overall success rate was %92.7 with no incidence of avascular necrosis in our series.
