Bilateral fracture dislocation of the shoulder (Presentation of a Case)

Abstract

The largest portion of the dislocations encountered in the adults comprises shoulder dislocations and 2.16% of these dislocations constitute posterior dislocations. It is possible to detect that a dislocation develops secondary to convulsions due to immediate loss of consciousness in the history of most of the posterior dislocations of the shoulder. Approximately 20 cases have been so far reported in literature regurding bilateral dislocations of the shoulder. Bilateral dislocation associated with fractures are much more infrequentiy encountered with a reported number of case of four, in one of these cases the type of dislocation has not been indicated whereas three others have been reported to be posterior fracture-dislocations. During the last three yars we have treated 2 cases with the diagnosis of bilateral fractures-dislocation of the shoulder. Attempts have been made to define the incidence of the lesion, the way it develops. Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures taking opportunity with these two cases assessed to be bitateral posterior fracture dislocation of the shoulder both occuring during an epiteptic episode.
