Winged Scapula as a result of traumatic paraiysis of Serratus anterior muscle

Abstract

4 cases of winged scapula have been reviewed, which were due to traumatic paralysis of the anterior serratus muscle detected and treated between the years of 1979-1980 in the Clinic of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the İstanbul Medical School. In all of our cases, a indirect trauma to the shoulder girdle and a traction applied on the arm appear to be the causative factor leading to the paralysis. In a retrospective research made in our clinic material, the reason why we encountered all 4 cases in the last three years seems to originate from the difficulty in the establishment of the diagnosis. Complete healing has been obtained by the application of proper therapy after the establishment of diagnosis.
