The significance and treatment of femur shaft penetration and fractures as a complication of total prosthetic application

Abstract

Eight feromal fractures and penetration occured in 210 cases (223 operations) for total hip replacement. They usually, occured during dislocation of the hip, reaming of the shaft, insertion of the femoral component and were common second operation. On the other hand, the patients who have rheumatoid artrihtis, osteoporosis and congenitally dislocated hips are also potential candidates for this problem. The treatment of this problem is discussed here.
