The effects of operating theatre conditions on the rate of infection in total hip prostheses
Abstract
With the purpose of investigating the effective results having an improved course under the conditions of operating theatre in our clinic, attempts have been made to revieiwe by correlating with each other infection rates in operations of total hip prostheses adapted in two different stages during the period of 1957-1977 and 1977-1979. It has been noted that alterations realized to achieve uniform conditions of operating theatre involving the second stage signficantly decreased the infection rates in total hip prostheses compared to the first stage. The fact that antibiotics were not administered preoperatively in our cases and this rapid fall occuring in the number of deep infections have indicated that even in uniform operatiıng theatres, successfull results might have been obtained, taking into considerations some fundatnental principles.
