Abstract
Spinal Cord iniuries in children below the age of 15 year are considered very rare. Reviewing the 205 paraplegic and tetraplegic patients who had admitted tho the Gülhane Military Hospital, reported the admission of 9 children (excluding those due to poliomyelitis). But only 4 were due to traumatic lesions. A common clinical feature of the patients was that vertebral injury was minimal or absent. The spinal injured child has special needs owing to the prosesses of physical, mental and social growth. In addition to these, some other complications are oftenly associated with the condition. The goals of the rehabilitation programs should be prevention of spinal deformity, hip subluxation and dislication, long bone fractures and loss of strength and coordination.

Abstract
15 yaşından küçük çocuklarda medülla spinalis yaralanmalarına çok seyrek rastlanır. Gülhane Askeri Tıp Akademisi Hastanesine yatmış olan 205 paraplejik ve kuadriplejik hastanın dosyalarının incelenmesinde, paraplejili 9 çocuk saptanmış ve bunlardan yalnızca 4 tanesinin travmatik nedenle oluştuğu gözlenmiştir. Bu hastaların ortak karakteri, vertebral yaralanmanın minimal olması, ya da hiç olmamasıdır. Spinal yaralanmalı çocukların fizik, mental ve sosyal gelişimleri nedeniyle bazı özel gereksinimleri vardır. Ayrıca paraplejiyle birlikte bazı önemli komplikasyonlar tabloya eşlik eder. Rehabilitasyon programları sırasında özellikle, omurga deformitesi, kalça çıkıkları, uzun kemik kırıkları, güç ve koordinasyon eksiklikleri gibi komplikasyonların gelişmemesine dikkat edilmelidir.
