Cast-Brace Treatment for Fractures of the Femur

Abstract

The Cast-Brace application had been done in 12 patients with 13 fractures of the femur between 1975-1976 in the Departments of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology of Gülhane Militaray Medical Academy and Ankara Mevki Hospital. The technique of the Cast-Brace application was described. The results and the complications were discussed and the Cast-Brace application was suggested in adult femoral fractures in following situations: 1. Open femoral fractures, 2. Comminuter femoral fractures, 3. The localisation of the fracture is not suitable for I.M. Nailing, 4. The equipment for classical I.M. Nailing is inadequate.
