The indication and significance of resecton and substitional osteoplasty for giant-cell tumors in the proximal end of the tibia and the distal end of the femur

Abstract

During the years between 1953 and 1978, resection and substitutional osteoplasty operations were performed, which were applied for the treatment of giant cell tumors in distal femur and proximal portions of the tibia in the Clinic of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the İstanbul Medical Faculty, 5 cases were examined and reviewing the literature in orthopaedics regarding the above subject and depending on the results obtained in our cases, the role and emphasis of resection and substitutional osteoplasty operations in the treatment of giant cell tumors ot the knee site have been discussed.
