Surgical Treatment of Torticollis

Abstract

In thıis study, clinical features and surgical treatment of torticollis are presented. In our clinic between the years of 1956-1972, 127 cases were treated surgically for torticollis. 124 of these cases (%97,6) were congenital torticollis, result of obstetrical trauma, other 3 (%2,4) were result of old burn around the neck. In 70 cases (% 55,1) torticoilis was at right side, in other 57 (% 44,9) at left side. Sexes of the patients were equal, 64 male and 63 female. Ages of the patients: Majority of patients were between 6-10, 55 cases (% 43,3), age 0-5, 30 cases (% 23,7), ages 11-15, 28 cases (%22), other 14 cases (%11) were in older ages. Tenotomy of sterno-cleido-mastoid muscle were performed in these 124 cases. In 94 cases (% 75,8) at the lower end, in 19 cases (% 15,8) at the upper end, in 11 cases (% 8,9) at botd ends. Deformity of the neck recurred in 18 cases (% 14,2) because, the patients are coming to the treatment in older ages and neglecting the postoperative treatment.
