The methods of internal fixation tor the tibial shaft fractures other than AO osteosynthesis and Küntscher's nailing

Abstract

In this paper the methods of internal fixation, other than AO osteosynthesis and Küntscher's nailing for the tibial shaft fractures are studied. In series of 60 cases the causes of skin neecrosis seen after internal fixation by plate and screws was investigated. Incidence of this skin necrosis was %33,33 after AO compression plate-fixation (4 out 12 cases) and % 6, 25 after application of ordinary plate fixation (3 out of 48 cases). This findings showed that incidence of skin necrosis is 5 times greater, if the AO plate is applied to the antero-medial surface of the tibia. Therefore application of this plate to the antero;lateral surface of the tibia is recommended.
