Lumbar plexopathy following transforaminal interbody fusion: a rare complication

Abstract

Postoperative radiculopathy has previously been reported as a common complication of transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF). However, no data has been published on lumbar plexopathy following TLIF. We present a rare case of lumbar plexopathy occurring following TLIF (L5-S1) in a patient with spondylolisthesis. Although initially a diagnostic challenge, sinister causes of neuropathy such as bleeding or neoplastic growths were excluded by imaging. A diagnosis of acute lumbar plexopathy of left L2 to L4 was eventually made after electromyographic studies was performed in consultation with a senior neurologist. The patient was treated supportively with good functional recovery.

Transforaminal interbody füzyonu sonrası lomber pleksopati: Nadir görülen bir komplikasyon

Abstract

Radikülopatinin transforaminal lomber interbody füzyon (TLİF) cerrahisi sonrası yaygın görülen bir komplikasyon olduğu bilinmektedir. Bununla birlikte, TLİF sonrası lomber pleksopatiye dair bir bilgi literatürde yer almamaktadır. Çalışmamızda, spondilolistezisi olan bir hastada (L5-S1) TLİF sonrası ortaya çıkan nadir görülen bir lomber pleksopati olgusu sunuyoruz. Tanının konması başlangıçta güç olsa da, görüntüleme bulguları ile kanama ya da neoplastik oluşumlar gibi nöropatik nedenler değer¬lendirme dışı bırakıldı. Kıdemli bir nörologla konsülte edilerek uygulanan elektromiyografi sonrası sol L2-L4 arası akut lomber pleksopati tanısı konuldu. Hastaya fonksiyonel özelliklerini geri kazandıra¬cak destekli tedavi uygulandı.
