The effect of sublaminar wiring on rat peridural tissues and medulla spinalis

Year 1989, Volume: 23 Issue: 1, 16 - 19, 11.09.2006

Abstract

Luque's segmental spinal instrumentation was performed in the 4. and 5. lumbar vertebral segments of 22 mature Albino rabbits, mean 3 kg weith in the Experimental Medicine and Research Center of lstanbul University (DETAM), lstanbul between july 1987-May 1988. 6 test animals that died and 1 that had infection were excluded. Radiologic and histopathologic examinations revealed that Sublaminar wires caused oedema and congestion in the peridural tissues and dura mater as traversing through peridural space, but this reaction was solved in a period of two months. No new bone formation occured on the inner surface of the laminae. Sublaminar wires were surrounded with nomal fatty fibrous peridural tissue in the end of the third month. Medulla spinalis was nomlal in the segments that sublaminar wiring was perfomed. Subperisteal stripping was not sufficient to produce fusion in the spine of rabbit even though it was combined with rigid segmental spinal fıxation.

Sublaminar tellerin tavşan peridural dokuları ve medulla spinalis üzerine etkisi

Year 1989, Volume: 23 Issue: 1, 16 - 19, 11.09.2006
