The effect of head injury on fracture healing

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of head injury on fracture healing. Between January 1989-December 1990 a group of 34 patients who had diaphyseal fracture with head injuries and the control group of 15 patients who had only diaphyseal fracture admitted to our clinic was the subject of this study. One and three weeks after the fracture serum growt, hormone levels were measured for each patien (Radiological fracture healing response were measured Computerrzed Brain Tomography of all patients with head in Juries was taken and the severity of the head injury was determined Serum growth hormone levels and fracture healing responses were higher in the patients with head injuries. We were led to the conclusion that rapidly fracture healing and excessıve callus formation the patient with head injuried group might be because of higher excretion of growth hormone then normal.

Kafa travmasının kırık iyileşmesi üzerine etkisi

Abstract

Bu çalışmamızın amacı, kafa travmasımn kırık iyileşmesi üzerine etkisini belirlemekti. Ocak 1989-Aralık 1990 tarihleri arasında kliniğimize başvuran kafa travması ve beraberinde diafiz kırığı olan 34 hastadan oluşan grup ile, kafa travması olmaksızın diafiz kırığı olan 15 hastadan oluşan kontrol grubu bu çalışmamızın konusunu teşkil etmiştir. Hastaların tamamında kırıktan bir ve üç hafta sonra kan serumunda büyüme hormonu seviyelerine bakıldı. Radyolojik olarak kırık iyileşme cevabı ölçüldü. Kafa travması olan hastalarda travma sonrası Bilgisayarlı Beyin Tomografisi (BBT) yapılarak, travmanın beyinde yaptığı hasarın ciddiyeti tespit edildi. Kafa travması olan gruptaki serum büyüme hormonu değerleri ve kırık iyileşme cevabı kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek bulundu. Kafa travması beraberinde diafiz kırığı olan hasta grubundaki hızlı kırık iyileşmesi ve aşırı kallus oluşumuna, bu hastalarda normalde fazla büyüme hormonu salınımının neden olabileceği kanaatine varıldı.
