The results of distal oblique metatarsal osteotomy (Lindgren-Turan) operation in the surgical treatment of hallux valgus

Abstract

At the SSK Hospital in the Department of Orthopeadics and Traumatology, Lindgren and Turan operation have been performed on the 44 feet of 43 patients with hallux valgus between the years of 1989 and 1991. 33 (78%) of the patients were female and 10 (22%) of them were male with ages ranged between 13-76 (average age was 41.1) Their mean follow-up period was 11.5 months .(2-22 months). The evaluation of the results has been made according to Glückert and et. al.’s objectıve and subjective criteria and in addition to them Macnab's criteria. Consequently, we obtained 36 (81.1%) excellent, 6 (13.6%) good and 2 (4.6%) poor results. Thus, it is clear that Lindgren- Turan operation is a preferable method for the patients with hallux valgus who do not have an extreme arthrotic change
Because this operalion;
-is technically easier
-can be performed in polyclinics by regional anesthesia
-effectively prevents deformation without soft tissue operation,
-enables the patient to carry out his/her daily functions in the post - operational period without external support devices

Abstract

SSK İstanbul Hastanesi Ortopedi ve Travmaloloji Kliniği'nde 1989-1991 tarihleri arasında 43 hastanın 44 halluks valguslu ayağına Lindgren-Turan operasyonu uygulandı. Hastaların 33'ü (%78) kadın, 1O'u (%22) erkek, yaş ortalamaları 41, 1 (13-76)'dir. Ortalama takip süresi 11.5 (2-22) aydır. Hastalarımızı Glückert ve arkadaşlarının objektif ve subjektif kriterlerine ilave olarak, Benny-Macnab'ın kriterlerine göre değerlendirdik. 36 (%81.1) çok iyi, 6 (%13-6) iyi, 2 (%4.6) kötü sonuç aldık. Operasyonun poliklinik koşularında rejional anestezi ile yapılabilmesi, teknik kolaylığı, ameliyat sonrası dönemde eksternal tespit araçlarına gerek duyulmaksızın günlük fonksiyonlann yapılabilmesi, yumuşak doku girişimi yapılmadan deformiteyi etkin bir şekilde gidermesi nedeniyle aşırı, artrozik değişiklik bulunmayan halluks valguslu hastalarda tercih edilebilecek bir yöntem olduğu görülmektedir.
