Arthroscopy correlated MRI in anterior knee pain (A preliminary report)

Year 1994, Volume: 28 Issue: 5, 294 - 296, 11.09.2006

Abstract

In this study we evaluated the value of MRI in diagnosis of chondromalacia patellae. In 15 patients MRI was used to evaluate posterior patellar hyaline cartilage. T1 and T2 axial sections were taken. Cartilage thickness, intensity and surface were analyzed. In 9 patients findings of MRI and arthroscopy were compared. In 4 of 9 cases who underwent arthroscopic examination chondromalacia patellae has been found. 3 of them were Grade 1 and 1 was Grade 2. The thickness and signal intensity on MRI were normal in three of cases. On MRI three was two anterior cruciate ligament tear and correlated with arthroscopy. In a cases with synovitis, the single finding on MRI was effusion. MRI with spin echo technique has not been useful to detect early cartiIage changes of chondromalacia patellae, although it has been useful in differential diagnosis.

Year 1994, Volume: 28 Issue: 5, 294 - 296, 11.09.2006
