Screening for orthopaedic symptoms and deformities in primary school children.

Year 1996, Volume: 30 Issue: 2, 168 - 174, 11.09.2006

Abstract

12135 children in 32 primary schools at Isparta were examined to determine the prevalence of orthopae-dic impairments. Each child was evaluated for posture, walking, squatting down, forward bending, movements and deformities of the extremities. Footprints were used to diagnose pes planus. The prevalence of orthopae-dic deformities was 96.25%o; 45% of them were females and 55% males. The most frequently seen orthopae-dic symptoms or deformities were pes planus-planovalgus (59.08 %o), toeing-in (25.38 %o), scoliosis (3.30 %o), hallux valgus (3.13 %o) and posttraumatic sequeleae (2.06 %o). in 60 children (4.95 %o), there were multiple deformities. The most frequently coexisting deformities were pes planus+toeing-in (2.55 %o). With the increa-sing age, the prevelance of pes planus decreased: which was 107%o at the age of 6, and 33 %o at 12 years. Toeing-in was more frequent in girls and bilateral in 53% of the cases. Among the scoliotic group, 42.5% were postural, 40% were idiopathic, 7.5% were congenital, 5% were neuromuscular and 5% were of compensatory origin. Almost all cases (95%) of scoliosis were undiagnosed before. Halux valgus was seen mostly bilateral (81%), and was also coexisting with pes planus (29%) and toeing-in (8%). Posttraumatic sequelae were found to be mostiy in males and upper extremities. Finally, relatively high rates of orthopaedic symptoms and defor-mities were detected in accordance with the literature.

İkokul öğrencilerinde ortopedik semptom ve deformite taraması

Year 1996, Volume: 30 Issue: 2, 168 - 174, 11.09.2006

Abstract

Özürlü-lerin %45'i kız, %55'i erkekli. Skolyozlu olguların %42.5'i postüral. 40'ı idyopatik, %7.5'i konjenital, %5'i kompansatuar ve %5'i nöromüsküler skolyoz olarak değerlendirildi.
