Girdlestone resection arthroplasty, as a salvage procedure

Year 1999, Volume: 33 Issue: 1, 62 - 67, 11.09.2006

Abstract

Girdlestone’s resection arthroplasty was performed in 12 patients in our clinic for the loosening or infection which occurred following total hip arthroplasty operations.Three of the patients were male,9 female. The average age of the patients was 75.3 years (range, 40 to 83). Eight of these cases had infection and 4 of these cases had aseptic loosening. The average follow up was 46 months (range,22 to 92). In our final evaluation, although the pain almost allways was decreased , according to preoperative stage, ability of walking and activity were partially increased in all cases.Shortening of limb lengths were found between 3 and 11 cm.All patients needed some device for walking.According to our evaluation,Girdlestone’s procedure looks like an appropriate alternative in selected patients when severe complications of the revision arthroplasty were also considered.

Kurtarıcı bir işlem olarak Girdlestone rezeksiyon artroplastisi

Year 1999, Volume: 33 Issue: 1, 62 - 67, 11.09.2006
