A case of an intraneural ganglion cyst in the peroneal nerve resulting in drop foot

Year 2000, Volume: 34 Issue: 4, 426 - 429, 11.09.2006

Abstract

Intraneural ganglion cysts are rarely observed. Involvement of the peroneal nerve may cause neurological deficits, resulting in foot drop. Magnetic resonance imaging and electromyography are quite valuable in the diagnosis. A fourteen-year-old male patient presented with a painful swelling in the lateral part of his right knee, causing drop foot. An intraneural ganglion cyst was detected, affecting the peroneal nerve. Surgical removal of the lesion was performed. Nerve functions improved in the postoperative fourth month. No complications occurred during a follow-up for 30 months.

Peroneal sinir lokalizasyonunda intranöral yerleşimli ganglion kisti ve sebep olduğu düşük ayak: Olgu sunumu

Year 2000, Volume: 34 Issue: 4, 426 - 429, 11.09.2006

Abstract

İntranöral ganglion kistleri nadir görülür. Ganglion kistinin peroneal sinir yerleşimi ise nörolojik bulgulara yol açabilmekte, düşük ayağa neden olabilmektedir. Tanıda özellikle manyetik rezonans ve elektromiyografi tetkikleri önemli rol oynamaktadır. Sağ dizinin dış yan tarafında ağrılı şişlik ve düşük ayak klinik tablosu ile başvuran 14 yaşında erkek hastada peroneal intranöral yerleşimli ganglion kisti cerrahi tedavi ile çıkarıldı. Ameliyat sonrası dördüncü ayda sinir fonksiyonlarında düzelme görüldü. Hastanın 30 aylık takibinde herhangi bir problemle karşılaşılmadı.
