Median Nerve Stress Test in the early diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome

Abstract

In this study the role of median nerve stress test in the early diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) Was investigated. 40 cases of CTS were analised and it was shown that 20 cases appeared to have Tinel sign (+) and 20 cases Tinel sign (—). Also in both groups distal latency of median nerve was investigated before and after Phalen test. In both of these groups distal latency increased after Phalen test and it was concluded that this test may be valuable in the early diagnosis of CTS.

Abstract

Bu klinik çalışmada karpal tunel sendromunun erken tanısında nervus medianus stres testinin bir rolü olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Araştırmada karpal tünel sendromu ön tanısı olan 40 olgunun 20 tanesi Tinel belirtisi pozitif ve 20 tanesi de Tinel belirtisi negatif bulunmuş ve her iki grup hastada da elektronöromiyografik olarak Phalen testi öncesi ve sonrasında nervus medianus distal latensisi araştırılmıştır. Her iki grupta da Phalen testi sonrasında distal latensinin arttığı ve bu testin karpal tünel sendromu ön tanısında önemli bir faktör olacağı kanısına varılmıştır.
